Best SD Cards for DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic

mavic 3

Using the best sd cards for DJI Mavic 3 or Mavic 3 Classic can ensure that you won’t get any choppy videos or compatibility issues. This post discusses what SD card you should use for getting the best result for aerial video shooting with your Mavic 3 or Mavic 3 Classic.

DJI Mavic 3 does come with 8 GB built-in internal storage and the practical space you can use for videos and photos is only about 7.2 GB. That is to say, it can only hold approximately 9 minutes of 4K videos, let alone the 5.1K videos that the Mavic 3 is capable of.

In order to get more storage, the best choice is to buy a compatible microSD card unless you choose the $4,999 DJI Mavic 3 Cine Premium Combo that comes with a 1TB SSD (Available space is approx.934.8GB).

In terms of Mavic 3 compatible SD Cards, DJI has a recommended SD card list including tested ones from 64 GB to 512 GB.

If you are in a hurry, click here to get a quick overview, you can choose whichever you want. But we strongly recommend you take a moment to learn something you really need to know before buying.

Do I need an SD Card for DJI Mavic 3?

Yes. As we mentioned above, DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic only have 7.9 GB of practical internal storage available. You can only shoot 5.1K videos for less than 10 minutes. So SD cards are necessary for DJI Mavic 3.

If you use the DJI Mavic 3 Cine edition, then it’s not a necessity because it comes with a  built-in 1 TB SSD.

DJI Mavic 3 SD Card Specifications

The DJI Mavic 3 comes with a single microSD card slot on the right side, it supports an SDXC or UHS-I microSD card with a capacity of up to 2 TB.

If you look at the specification, you will find that the standard is not that clear. Both SDXC and UHS-I are new SD card standards. SDXC sd cards come with a capacity between 32 GB and  2 TB. UHS-I means the SD card you use must have a minimum write speed of 10 MB/s.  So when you choose an SD card for the Mavic 3, you should pay attention to the write speed rather than the read speed, and only choose SD cards that meet the specs.

What would happen if you use an incompatible SD card?

Using an incompatible microSD card may cause slowdowns, stop recordings, low-quality video, glitching video, corrupted files, data loss, or boot issues. So it’s really important that you only choose SD Cards that meet the system requirements or from the DJI recommend list.

How many SD cards do I need?

It’s recommended to get at least two SD cards for your Mavic 3. You will have an extra one in case the other one is full or gets corrupted. Just imagine, if you only have one SD card, you will be in a pretty awkward situation. And for most people, two SD cards are totally enough unless you shoot too many videos.

Which size of microSD card should I choose for DJI Mavic 3?

As mentioned above, it’s recommended to buy at least 2 SD cards. And which size to choose really depends on your budget and the frequency you would use your drone. For example, if you want 256 GB storage, you can buy TWO 128 GB ones, if you want larger storage like 512 GB, you can buy TWO 256 SD cards.
