New firmware often contains bug fixes, new features, and improvements. So it’s important to keep your Skydio 2 up-to-date whenever there is new firmware available. This guide will walk you through the whole firmware update process.
What you need to know before updating
- The update process takes quite a few minutes, make sure your drone and mobile phone are fully charged.
- Make sure you have the latest version of the Skydio app.
- Make sure your internet connection is stable.
- Don’t turn off your drone during the update process.
- Don’t quit the Skydio 2 app when updating.
- If you can’t connect your drone automatically, to back to your phone’s WiFi settings to connect manually.
- If you failed to install the new firmware, restart your drone and the Skydio 2 app, and retry.
How to Update Skydio 2 Firmware
When a new firmware update is available, the Skydio 2 app will alert you and you can see the update notice on the screen. If you want to do it later at a more convenient time, just tap the ‘Later‘ button. If you want to update immediately, you can tap the ‘Update‘ button.
After you tap the update icon, the process will start, and you will enter another screen displaying which version you will be downloading and the current version you are running on your Skydio 2. It’s always a good idea to confirm that you’re updating the version of the firmware you want.
Once you confirm the firmware version, tap on the update button, then you will enter a screen showing all the details about the new firmware, including bug fixes and improvements.
It’s recommended to take a few seconds to go through everything showing on the screen. You will have a better understanding of what improved and what new features will be available. Tap on ‘Start Update‘ to continue, and the download of the firmware will start.
Once completed, you will need to connect your phone with your Skydio 2 drone via WiFi. Tap the ‘Connect‘ icon to upload the new software.
After tapping the connect icon, you will be shown the following screen. Normally you can tap connect after the lights on your Skydio 2 are solid blue. If you have trouble connecting your drone, you can always go back to your phone’s WiFi settings to manually connect.
Once your phone and drone are successfully connected, the new firmware will start transferring. And you can monitor the process on the screen.
When it’s completed. Your Skydio 2 will reboot automatically to install the new firmware.
After the Reboot process, the Skydio 2 will activate the new software and enable the new features.
