It is very important to keep your Mavic Air 2 firmware up-to-date because every firmware update includes either improvements or bug fixes to your drone. It will ensure that your drone has the latest features and is safe for flying.
There are two easy ways you can update the latest firmware on your Mavic Air 2, using DJI Fly App or DJI Assitant 2 for Mavic.

Things you need to know before updating
- Ensure that your Mavic Air 2, remote controller, and smartphone or tablet are fully charged. If not, make sure they have at least a 50% charge in them.
- Don’t forget to remove the Gimbal Cover so that the gimbal won’t be damaged during updating.
- Make sure your WiFi connection is stable when downloading the firmware.
- Don’t disconnect your drone or remote controller from your mobile device or computer.
- Don’t worry if your drone keeps restarting during the update process.
- If the update fails, restart aircraft, remote controller, and DJI Fly or DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic, and retry.
Update Mavic Air 2 Firmware with DJI Fly
Step 1 Turn on and connect your Mavic Air 2 and remote controller
Step 2 After you successfully connect your drone, you will enter the main screen of the DJI Fly App. If your mobile device is connected to WiFi, the app will check available firmware updates automatically. If there is a new update a popup will prompt.
Step 3 Follow the instructions to enter the firmware update page and tap ‘Update‘
Step 4 Wait for the drone and remote controller to finish the update. During the process, the drone will restart so make sure the gimbal cover is removed.
Update Mavic Air 2 Firmware with DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic
It’s a different story to update your firmware with DJI Assitant 2. You will need to install the software on your PC or Mac first, and you will need to update the Mavic Air 2 drone and remote controller separately.

Step 1 Power your Mavic Air 2
Step 2 Using the USB-A to USB-C cable to connect your drone to your computer. The USB-C port is on the left side of the aircraft.
Step 3 Launch the DJI Assitant 2 for Mavic and log in with your DJI account.
Step 4 Select Mavic Air 2 and you will see all the firmware versions. Choose the latest firmware and click ‘Upgrade‘.
Step 5 Click ‘Start Update‘ and wait for the completion. The firmware download and update will be done automatically. The Mavic Air 2 will power off after updating.
Step 6 Disconnect your Mavic Air 2 and connect your remote controller
Step 7 Repeat the above steps until it’s done.
