The Best DJI Fly Compatible Devices and Troubleshooting

DJI Fly Compatible Devices

This post lists the DJI Fly app-compatible devices tells you how to check the compatibility of your phones or tablets, and helps you to choose the right one for your drone.

One of the most important things about flying your DJI Mini, Air, and Mavic drones is to make sure the smartphone or tablet you use is compatible with the DJI Fly App.

It not only ensures a better flying experience but will also save you from a possible drone crash or fly away, especially for beginner pilots. Just imagine, if your drone is miles away, suddenly the DJI Fly App freezes or quits unexpectedly, you might be getting a little bit of panic.

The DJI FPV drone also uses the DJI Fly app, though you don’t need the app to fly it, you still need to use it to activate the aircraft and the FPV Goggles before flying.

What you will learn in this article:

What phones and tablets are compatible with DJI Fly app?

How to know if my device is compatible

The easiest way is to check this DJI Fly Phone and Tablet compatibility list (DJI Fly works with DJI Mini 3 Pro, DJI Mavic 3, DJI Air 2S, DJI FPV, DJI Mini 2, Mavic Air 2, and Mavic Mini). All the phones and tablets in it are tested by both DJI and users. If so, you can set your mind at rest.

If not, you will need to make sure your phone or tablet:

1. Meets the system requirements of the DJI App.  Here are the DJI Fly system requirements:

According to many users’ feedback, devices that run a 32-bit Android OS have compatibility issues, so Android devices also need to:

2. Run a 64-bit Android OS

How to check if your Android device is 64-bit or 32-bit? There are two ways to do this:

1) Use the 64Bit Checker

Android 64-bit OS Check

3.  Comes with ARM CPUs

If you follow the guide on how to check the Android OS, you will have already installed either the 64-Bit Checker or the AnTuTu Benchmark app.

If you go with the 64 Bit Checker, you can easily find the CPU info on the screen. For those who use the AnTuTu, just go to My DeviceCPU, and you will see the information about your device’s CPU Architecture. The info needs to be written “ARM“.

Then you can download the DJI Fly App and have a try. Normally, you won’t have any issues, but you’d better keep your DJI Air 2S, DJI Mini SE, DJI Mini 2, Mavic Air 2, or Mavic Mini in the eyesight and fly it in an open area because users do have problems with phones that meet the App’s requirements.

If your phone or device doesn’t fall into the compatibility list or meet the system requirements, you will need to get a new one. Just choose one from the compatibility list according to your brand preference and budget.

DJI Fly Compatible Phones and Tablets

Please note that phones or tablets on the list are tested by both DJI and pilots. The ones in italic are tested by users, others are tested by DJI.

If you are flying your drone with an iPad or a Tablet, you will need to use a drone tablet holder.

DJI Mavic 3, DJI Air 2S, DJI FPV, DJI Mini 2, DJI Mimi SE, Mavic Air 2, and Mavic Mini Compatible iPhones and iPads

Most iPhones and iPads released in recent years are compatible. When it comes to the best phone or tablet for your Mavic drone, we recommend you choose the latest model.

DJI Fly App now only supports iOS 11 devices, if your iPhone or iPad can’t update, you can download the iOS 10 version here.

DJI Mavic 3, DJI Air 2S, DJI Mini 3, DJI Mini 2, DJI Mini SE, Mavic Air 2, and Mavic Mini Compatible Android Phones and Tablets

Please note that:

1. There are too many different models of Android phones and tablets in the market, so the Android compatibility issue is much more complicated. If you find devices in the list that do not work, please let us know the details of the device’s specs.

2. DJI won’t test every single qualified phone in the market, it only tests those that have a relatively larger market share. This list includes devices that are tested by both DJI and drone pilots. The ones in italic are from users’ feedback, they should be no problem, but I still recommend you test it yourself.

3. The firmware released on Jan 14th, 2021 has solved the Android 10 compatibility issue.

Troubleshooting: DJI Fly Installation and Connection Issues

After I did some research on FB Mavic Mini groups and other drone forums, I found that a lot of Android users are experiencing compatibility issues because not every single Android phone or tablet is on DJI’s compatibility list.

Here are the most typical problems:

1. What is the best tablet for DJI Mavic 3, DJI Air 2S, DJI FPV, DJI Mini 2, DJI Mimi SE, Mavic Air 2, and Mavic Mini?

Currently, the iPad Mini 5 is considered to be the best tablet for DJI Mavic drones based on its price, compatibility, and size.

2. What tablets work with the DJI Fly app?

When it comes to DJI Fly compatible tablets, it’s a bit complicated as there are so many Android models out there. If you are looking for a new tablet to fly your drone, then just follow DJI’s recommend list. If you’ve already got a tablet, you will need to make sure it meets the system requirements.

3. What are the best DJI Fly settings for Mavic Air 2 and Mavic Mini?

DJI Fly is a new app that can only be used with Mavic Air 2 and Mavic Mini currently, Getting to know the new app thoroughly before flying is very important for safety and capturing better footage and photos. Here is a guide to DJI Fly’s in-depth review and best settings for Mavic Air 2 and Mavic Mini.

4. The App is not on the Google Play Store on your device.

Open your browser, and go to dji.com/fly to scan the QR code to download and install the app. If you have a problem installing the DJI Fly app, this post will help you out.

5. You failed to install DJI Fly or the app just doesn’t open after installing successfully.

When you are on the DJI Fly App page, you get a popup saying “This app is not compatible with your device“. First, go check your Android OS version: Settings > About Device > Android Version (this may vary according to different smartphone brands). If your device’s OS is under 7.0.0 and there is a system update available, go for it.

If your phone or tablet runs the Android 7.0 or above system but you still can’t install or launch the App, you will need to check your Android and CPU Architecture.

6. You have no problem launching the app but can’t connect the aircraft with the remote controller

  • Try with another USB cable or remove and insert the USB cable again. It is recommended to use the original USB cable. If the original one is too short and you have to buy a new one, make sure it’s fully compatible.
  • For Android devices, check whether the “USB debugging” is turned on. Then go to settings > Applications > Application manager, and select DJI Fly. Click “Set as default” and “Clear defaults”. Then reconnect the mobile device and launch DJI Fly.
  • Update the firmware and the DJI Fly app. Do you have the latest version of DJI Fly? Have you updated the firmware? Make sure that you keep your firmware and DJI Fly up-to-date.

  1. Hi have an LG5. it meets the requirements. I successfully downloaded the app. I can open it and access the menus but cannot connect to the RC nor to the aircraft. Nor can I connect the RC to the aircraft directly. Any suggestions?

  2. Hallo alle zusammen,

Has anyone tried the Turbo 2? I am looking through my old phones to see what I can use. My old tablet seems to be able to download the stuff and connect, but I don’t have a holder for it yet nor a longer cord yet (have to order all of that stuff online unfortunately). The Turbo 2 I need to fix the screen on so I can only see what google searching can find for me. https://www.phonemore.com/specs/motorola/droid-turbo-2/xt1585-32gb/ this is the info I seem to be able to find on it. I wish my z2 play would work.

  7. Using Samsung Note 10+ here. Fly App is compatible, no issue software-wise. Hardware-wise, it is very difficult to fit the phone into the remote and the connect the cable. The bixby/power button is on the left side (top side) thus frequently get pressed by the remote. Some on screen buttons are too close to the edges and get covered by the remote (thus difficult to access).

Solution: Get a tabled holder and definitely a longer cable.

  8. Got ours working on a Huawei Y7 Pro 2019 had to get into dev options on the phone to set the USB and then select ‘file transfer’ when firing up DJIfly.

  9. I’m using DJI Fly with Huawei P9 lite. Only problem, I think with my battery, when it is lower then 80% the RC has difficulties to connect to the phone. The smartphone continues to ask the permission to connect USB device and sometimes it disconnects.

    1. Sorry, but i can’t install dji fly to my p9 lite. i can’t find in play store!
      What android version have you?

    1. Edwin A Johnson

Could you tell me which version you have of the Stylo 5? I have already bought a mini fly more combo and had to return it after discovering my stylo 4 was not compatible.Planned go go with a 5 anyway prior to the Mini app incompatible nonsense but desperately want to repurchase the mini and wanted to stay with the Stylo model. only just learned that their are about 6 different versions based on carrier and demographics.
      Thanks

  10. Hi there, I’m using a P10 lite huawei and I was wondering if you can put on your list my phone (huawei P10 lite)

    Best regards

  11. Hi!
He tested the work of Dji Fly on the Samsung A8+ (2018) smartphone Live Demo Unit (installed the latest Android 9 firmware, installed via ODIN).
    It works great!

  12. Works pretty well with Xaiomi Mi 9 Lite.
Can’t be installed on Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM T585 (2016) because of the 32bit architecture.

  13. Hi, I’m looking at buying the mavic mini and also a new phone to use with it. Would the Samsung A51 be compatible? (128gb internal ram, 4gb Ram, octacore CPU?). Thanks.

  14. I have a Asus Zenfone 3 ze552kl android 8 and it works partially. I have to disable the video caching in Fly app or the video feed freeze during recording.

  15. Hi,
I think you can also add the oneplus 3 to your compatible list because it has a USB 2.0 type C port just like the oneplus 5.

    Cheers

  16. 2/19/2020 – Motorola Z4 (XT1980-3) unlocked with T-Mobile cell service. DJI Fly installed without problem. Registered with DJI and updated Mavic Mini and controller firmware in about 10-15 minutes without problem. Flew first flight 6 minutes without problem.

      1. Hi Steve,
Please add the moto g7 optimo maxx (XT1955DL) to your list (the specs are identical as moto g7 power) & have had about 11 flights (~40km in distance) without experiencing lags.

  17. DJI Fly is compatible with a Samsung TAB A (8.0,2019) Android 9 tablet model SM-T290. However, the Play Store does not allow installation. By downloading the APK and installing everything works perfectly. I can’t wait to see for the updates if I will receive notifications or have to install manually.

    1. I am glad I found your comment. I picked up a Tab A 8.0 2019 from BestBuy for $129 and DJI Fly works great! Saved me from almost spending 3-4x as much.

  18. Steve
Your list is incredible. You are doing what DJI should do. I congratulate you for that.

I´m familiar with motorola, but most of then (the new ones) are not compatible.
What do you think is the problem of Motorola?
Do you think the Motorola list could increase?

    Thank you very much

    1. Hi Joao, Thanks. I guess most Motorola phones may not come with an ARM CPU. As I am not quite familiar with Moto phones, so I don’t know if the list would increase or not.

  19. Hola, LG g5, descarga la app, instala, pero no funcionan todas las opciones. Moto g7 power (xt1955-2) descarga la app, instala, funcionan todas las opciones, pero tiene lag y pixela mucho al volar.

    1. Hi Diego, thanks for sharing. When you use the Moto G7 Power, does it have enough storage? Have you quitted all the other apps when using DJI Fly?

  20. Hi!
I wish I’d read this before buying the Mavic Mini… But even then I’d probably still have an issue.
I have a Moto Z 2 Play. I just ran Antutu. The phone has 8 ARM Cortex A-53 and is at 64 bits! Why on earth doesn’t it work? The app isn’t available in the playstore, and when I downloaded it from DJI manually it refused to install.

I guess the powers that be at DJI are pals with those at Huawei and Xiaomi bit not Lenovo…

Massive disappointment. Going to return the drone.

    1. Hi Simon, If the app is refused to install, it means it’s not compatible with your phone. According to your experience, even phones or tablets that come with an ARM 64-bit CPU are not 100% compatible. I guess I will need to find more methods to check the availability.

  21. Ok, after some research, the Galaxy A10e has a 64bit ARM CPU. However, it came with the Android 9 32bit OS. Called Samsung tech support who advised there is no way to upgrade or change the OS to 64bit Andriod.
If anyone has info on swapping the OS let me know thanks.

  22. Based on the compatibility list I purchased a Samsung A10 e. Unfortunately for me, the A10e is a 32bit OS and I can not see the DJI fly app for download.
Please remove it from your list. $160 down the drain.

  23. Hello,

I want to buy the drone dji mavic mini and I read that at the moment it cannot be used with the motorola moto Z2 play phone.
Please let me know in what period of time can I use the drone with my motorola moto z2 play phone?
When will an update take place so I can use this phone with this drone?

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Diaconu, I don’t think there will be an update that will make the Moto Z2 compatible. I guess you will need to use another device.

  24. Hi, I have a Sony Xperia L1 Model G3311. All things indicate it should be compatible it is on the above list and is 64 bit (I checked) Software not listed in App store so found it as you suggested but when I try to download it says it cannot find a compatible device.

    1. Hi Fero, Although it’s not on the list, I think it should be no problem. You can follow the instructions in the article to check the specs.

  25. Fernando Martinez

I go the Samsung Galaxy JR Orbit for 79.99 >> a 64 bit device with an ARM cpu + 14nm of process technology 2gb ram etc. and right off the bat DID NOT WOrk! “Your phone is not compatible with this app” … returned it and got an iPhone 6s for 150.00 and everything worked just fine… you can get them right now almost everywhere pre-paid for around 140 – 150 with tax (you don’t need to get phone service)… I think it’s a good deal and it’s an iPhone.

  26. Works fine with my old LG Nexus 5X, wich is now dedicated for my mini.
At first I couldn’t find it in Google Play and going to https://www.dji.com/nl/dji-fly and hit the Get it from Google Play button gave me the warning of app incompatible with phone.
After scanning the QR code that’s also on the webpage above, it started installing the app without any problems. Have been flying for some time now without any problems.

  27. I have a G7 power and bought the mavic mini because your list seemed to suggest it would work OK (and the assistant in the shop also referred to it saying it should be fine).
The Fly App loads OK but I am unable to fly it – I get a message saying the IMU needs calibrating. When I proceed it goes to about 95% completed then nothing happens (apart from a green light flashing quickly on the aircraft). DJI support say that I need a compatible phone!!
Other people have obviously used a G7 so any suggestions?

    1. Hi Kevin, if it says the IMU needs calibrating, I think there might be something wrong with your Mavic Mini, you can try to calibrate it again, if it still doesn’t work, then you should contact DJI support.

  28. Why don’t dji tell android users that the remote controls battery will die after 40 minutes of flying because the remote is charging the phone battery….. so if you own a android device I wouldn’t buy the mavic mini. I have a note 10

    1. Mine certainly doesn’t die after 40 minutes. I’d discharge the battery completely if I were you and then re-charge fully, several times. I’m using a Pixel 2.

  29. I have a Moto G6. You already know that does not work.
Bought an Honor 20 lite for only € 200,- wich works perfectly.
The Honor is only for flying, the SIM stays in the Motorola 😉

  30. Geachte lezer,
Gaarne uw reactie. Vriendelijke groet, Martien Smits

    1. Hi Mwa, if I didn’t get you wrong, you mean you have a problem installing the DJI Fly App. Can you also follow the instructions to see if your phone comes with an ARM 64-bit CPU? If not, then it’s not compatible, you can try a different device. Hope this would help you out.
